FREYjA won Best Jazz Artist Category for the Song Bye Bye Angel at the MusicOz Awards 2002. The Awards were prestented by Australian star James Reyne in November, where FREYjA performed to an awestruck audience of 500 at the IPAC Theatre.

FREYjA also won Best Performers Category for her rendition of JJ Cale's song Magnolia. This appears on her second CD The Siren's Odyssey.

Confirmation of her talent comes via the legendary arrange / composer Robert Farnon (3 USA Grammy Awards) who has chosen do this big band jazz album with Carol. Farnon has worked with the singing greats of Hollywood and Broadway - Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella, Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horne and he has written of Carol "her singing is exquisite. I am thrilled at the thought of working with her".

Rafael - Mezquita
Mezquita combines both Spanish and British musicians from the fields of flamenco, jazz and contemporary music, incorporating percussion, jazz guitar, electric bass, flute and saxophone to complement the flamenco guitar. All this while remaining true to Spanish Gypsy roots stretching back hundreds of years. Following a fine line between innovation and tradition, he has drawn on his experiences living and working in Spain, Britain, Egypt, France, Ireland and Italy, where he has played with some of the greatest folk, jazz and classical musicians.

This album is somewhat shorter than usual CD recordings, but non the less we here at Night Cafe have been playing it non stop for days and just had cut that deal to make it available/... Do not mistake quantity with quality!

Velvet Fist are a group of acappela singers who have been making music together for over fifteen years. Their superb singing brings a fresh approach to politics, combining an exciting and creative sound with intimacy, warmth and humour. They want their music to contribute to the international struggle for socialism, peace and equality. Their repertoire includes songs from all over the world as well as some own compositions.

High points in recent years have included Tony Benn's 70th birthday party in the House of Commons, a performance on BBC Radio 4 of their musical director Graham Knight's haunting arrangement of the Red Flag and support act to Holly Near at the Raise Your Banners festival of political song in Sheffield. There are three Velvet Fist recordings: Green and Purple, The Gloves are Off and Pulling No Punches.
