Barb Jungr - Bare
BARB JUNGR, 'Britain's answer to Ute Lemper' and, has a long overdue new album out. Entitled Bare, it's a stripped-down, late-night, emotionally exposed set from a simple teaming of Barb in top voice and pianist Russell Churney turning in some of his finest playing. Barb has always had the knack of stripping down familiar songs and making you see them afresh, a skill well -demonstrated in blistering versions of Ray Davies' 'Waterloo Sunset' and Ian Dury's 'What a Waste'; in a more cabaret-oriented vein, there are great versions of Brel's 'Sons of' and the Piaf/Monnot standard 'Les amants d'un jour' (in English), plus Robb Johnson's anguished 'Au depart', Collins' 'My Father' which always causes a shiver at Barb's live gigs and three originals including the hearbrokern 'Where Are You Now?'

Velvet Fist - Pulling No Punches Velvet Fist - Pulling No Punches
Velvet Fist are a group of acappela singers who have been making music together for over fifteen years. Their superb singing brings a fresh approach to politics, combining an exciting and creative sound with intimacy, warmth and humour. They want their music to contribute to the international struggle for socialism, peace and equality. Their repertoire includes songs from all over the world as well as some own compositions.

High points in recent years have included Tony Benn's 70th birthday party in the House of Commons, a performance on BBC Radio 4 of their musical director Graham Knight's haunting arrangement of the Red Flag and support act to Holly Near at the Raise Your Banners festival of political song in Sheffield. There are three Velvet Fist recordings: Green and Purple, The Gloves are Off and Pulling No Punches.
