System
Fault is Aidan's first solo CD. It was recorded over the last few
years, and features guest appearances from some of Manchester's
finest musicians including Jaydev Mistry (percussion), Bernie Murphy
(vocals) and Jilah Bakhshayesh (violin).
Produced by Dave Connally (currently signed to Phuture Lounge with
LTA), who also acted as sample supremo and played keyboards, the CD
is a blend of styles from alt.folk to urban grooves via punk. With
finely honed lyrics that fall into the songwriting tradition
somewhere between Ian Dury and Ian Curtis (or was that Bonnie Prince
Billy and Billy Bragg?), the subjects of the songs range from
tender, off-beat love songs to cutting, comic, political satire.
"Aidan Jolly's music is passionate, accessible and an absolute
inspiration to listen to. Catch him when you can!" Ann Nicholls,
Raise Your Banners Festival, Norwich 2005
"Superb arrangement/recording, excellent lyrics...really
amazing!"
Mark Pickard, www.voxpopuli-online.org

History
His
songs grow out of relationships with communities and places.
Much of his recent work has been commissioned, often by people or
organisations who want to explore notions of identity or place, or
simply to tell stories. In this sense he is a 'folk' or 'world'
musician.
As well as performing solo he collaborates with other artists
and groups on projects. He is usually accompanied by Jilah
Bakhshayesh (violin and voice) and Martin Milner (guitar and voice).
Recent highlights include:
- 'Terminal Frontiers' - a Virtual Migrants collaboration with five
other artists including film maker Kooj Chuhan and Jilah Bakhshayesh,
which toured nationally 2004 - 2005. A DVD and CD will be released
in Autumn 2006.
- 'Our Town' (2005), a large scale commission for Ellesmere Port
Borough Council, in collaboration with poet John Lindley. It used
songs, video, documentary material, and poetry to tell the story of
the town in the words of the people who live there. It was premiered
live in Ellesmere Port's new Civic Square and will shortly be
available as a DVD.
- 'Contraflow' - in 2002 - 2003, Aidan was musician in residence in
Congleton, Cheshire. He produced this CD of nine songs about life in
market town Britain.
Well Red Productions is Aidan's own independent label.
